As a freelance seo I often browse job listings in sempo, monster and indeed.com just to name a few. I also browse craigslist once in a while too but not too often. I get a big kick out of all the pretenders out there. I saw a listing today where a local seo company was charging $175 per hour for their seo services! Wow, big money!!
They had a team of people working in their seo firm (from hadley massachusetts) bragging about their college degrees and education. Now, I'm not one to bash education as I myself am in college for I.T. right now. I love school! But to be honest I must say that they do not teach seo. Did you know that you can't take any seo classes in college?
Beware of seo specialists and seo companies that rely on their education to sell their seo talents. Seo is something you learn yourself online. The best seo's didn't necessarily go to school. In my experience the best seo's are people who have earned their experience trying to rank their own websites. Most fail but the few who survive and actually succeed at online marketing become great seo's!
Seo companies and firms charge outrageous prices for their time. I'm not against earning a good living mind you. I'm a capitalist! I love making money! But let's not get carried away here. Be reasonable. I would say that $100 per hour is fine but more than that is too much. Don't pay more than $100 per hour for seo services.
So in conclusion my advice is:
1. Don't be fooled by impressive credentials
2. Ask your seo if he has his own websites and how they rank; how many...
3. Don't pay more than $100 per hour for seo services.
